Project flow

Stage 1
Usually the graphicdesign or webdesign project begins with a brief. The more information you can provide in the brief, the better picture I will be able to build of your company or identity.

For graphicdesign projects e.g.:

  • Do you have company colors and fonts which should be used in the design?
  • Number of pages, format, printrun
  • Who is your audience?
  • Should the design appeal simply or exclusively?
  • Would you like to have special printing finishing like embossing, special colors, UV Varnish, hot stamping or the like?
  • Will you print only once or regularly? (e.g. for periodicals..)
  • Will the work be published multilingual?
  • Can you deliver digital content or do I have to capture text and scan pictures?

For webdesign projects you brief might include following informations:

  • What do you want to achieve with your website? Inform? Represent? Sell? Entertain?
  • Who will visit your website? Who is your audience?
  • What should your website visitor in the best case do when visiting your website?
  • Am I to take over an existing website and to redesign it or should it be totally new?
  • Are there any corporate Design guidelines to be observed?
  • Do you already have artwork? If so, in which format and resolution? Is it necessary to edit it for internet usage?
  • Do you already have text? If so, how many standard A4 pages? Who shall enter those first contents into your website?
  • Do you need special functions for your website?
  • Are there special technologies (e.g. flash, javascript, CSS3, embedding fonts) you want to include or exclude?
  • Who will update your website and how often?
  • Who will backup your website after publication?
  • Will the website be multilingual? What languages shall be provided?
  • etc.

Stage 2
is to create webdesigns or layouts. Mostly I create 2-3 drafts based on your brief. You review the design draft and request changes if required.

Stage 3
Your chosen draft will be refined.

Stage 4
Draft correction is finished. You gave the O.K. for setting or the approval for programming the website design. Print media will be prepared for printing and the webdesign will be provided with functionality, i.e. they are programmed.
While one can work with dummy text in the design phase to assess the layout, the original contents should be there at least now. So that the dummy texts and pictures canbe replaced with your original content.

Stage 5
The original contents are worked into the layout. The layout is waiting for your approval for printing. You can check it a last time - if everything is fine you sign it as O.K. for printing.
With a website you have the possibility to check functionality and whether all contents are correct.
After that the website can be released.

Because a website is not an immutable product as for example a printed brochure, you should think about who will maintain your website after release. It is not only about easy alteration of the text which you can do on your own after having attended a training.
It is also about database backups, FTP Backups and fixing bugs which might occur later when new browsers are published and new internet technologies are available.
I provide you optionally with website maintenance and backups at regular intervals.
